It's that time of year when we look to give gifts to those closest to us. Sometimes, it's hard to know what to get the men and women who are serving our country. We've created this Military gift guide that shows you everything from the best military-themed gifts for families, veterans, and deployed service members as well as how you can customize them with printable holiday tags!

Gifts for Military Families

If you’re looking for a gift for the children of military parents, here are some ideas:

  • Something to color or work on crafts with (think crayons, markers, coloring books). These are especially good if they can be used at home or in the car. They can keep kids busy while mom and dad are driving around town and waiting in lines.
  • Board games that don’t require batteries (think Candyland, Chutes & Ladders) - these have been around for generations; they never go out of style!
  • A set of cards so they can play Solitaire when traffic is backed up during their vacation travels!
  • A stuffed animal - many children have to share rooms with other siblings so having something special just for them makes bedtime less stressful!

You could also think about giving your child(ren) a gift card from one of their favorite stores like Target or Wal-Mart to use toward toys or treats for themselves later on down the road once everything settles down after deployment ends. This way they won't feel left out when everyone else gets something new!You could also think about giving them an allowance where every two weeks/once per month they would receive some extra money from you (or whoever will be providing financial support). This will teach them how important it is to save up instead spending all their money right away without thinking twice about how this purchase affects other things later on down the road like rent payment due next week etc..

Gifts for Veterans

If you're looking for a gift that your veteran will actually use, consider one of these options:

  • A t-shirt. Military t-shirts are a classic gift, and they make great gifts for veterans because they’re usually subtle enough to wear in public settings but still show pride in the military.
  • A coffee mug. Military mugs feature slogans like “Air Force Mom” or "Navy Dad." These can be personalized with your veteran's name and branch of service on it, making them even more special.
  • Gift card/certificate to their favorite store/restaurant/movie theater. This is another classic way to give a gift without spending too much money; however, if you want something more personal than simply handing over cash or a gift card, try getting them something specific from their list (see below).

Gifts for Deployment

If you're buying a gift for someone who's going to spend the holidays away from home, here are some ideas:

  • Gifts for spouses. The most important thing to remember when buying gifts for military spouses is that they can't receive packages from home until their partner returns from deployment. So if you want to send them something, make sure it's not something small or easily broken/stolen. The best gift ideas are things like books and DVDs/Blu-rays—the kind of stuff that will keep them entertained while they wait out the deployment. Also consider purchasing a subscription to Netflix or Amazon Prime Video so they'll have access to new shows during their time without internet access!
  • Gifts for children. If your child has been deployed with their parent(s), then chances are good that he or she has already received plenty of toys in care packages over the years—and probably lots more before Christmas rolls around! In this case, I'd recommend choosing something unique instead of another toy: maybe try showing up at school with a gift card so they can go shopping together? Or maybe give them money so they can buy each other presents online together...or just spend some quality time together playing video games together! It all depends on what works best within your family situation; just make sure whatever gifts you choose are age-appropriate before sending them off into cyberspace (especially if there's no adult supervision).

Gifts for Military Units

  • Gift ideas for the unit:

Items such as a coffee mug or watch personalized with your soldier's name and military unit are great gifts for the entire unit. If you're not sure what to get, ask the person in charge of distributing gifts how many people to buy for (usually between 20-30).

  • Gift ideas for the commander:

A nice pen set or something else that will be used every day will be appreciated by your soldier's commander.

  • Gift ideas for first sergeant:

Many units have their own traditions, but if you aren't sure what to get, consider getting something like an engraved pocket knife or flask. These are items that can be used during deployments as well as at home!

  • Gift ideas for unit sergeant major:

The UMSM is responsible for making sure everyone in his/her platoon gets along well and performs their duties efficiently; therefore, he/she is probably one of your soldier's favorite people on base! Consider getting him/her a nice watch so he/she always knows what time it is when he/she needs to keep track of his/her schedule (or just because).
